We were delighted to host Dr Alasdair Allan, MSP and Acting Minister for Climate Action, and Professor Colin Galbraith, Chair of NatureScot, on a visit to the River Almond near Perth.

Callum, Mark and Jane took Dr Allan and Prof Galbraith to a site where we have been treating a significant giant hogweed infestation since 2023, in collaboration with Perth and Kinross Council. Volunteers play a key role in control work at this site, and we were pleased that David, who volunteers with the Initiative, was able to join us on the day to talk about his volunteering motivations and experience.

The visit took place during a volunteer day – Project Officer Mark and Volunteer David were controlling giant hogweed on the site

We were able to show the rapid progress made on the site and had the opportunity to discuss the importance of this work for the local environment, native biodiversity, and for people and communities living alongside and using the river.

The site on the River Almond has greatly improved since work began in 2023
